berlin, birthday, and beyond

so in berlin we had a great time checking out the historical museums- ddr and the wall. and meeting with haso, a pastor and thinker in the german alternative church scene (who would pass for my dad age and style wise). we made it to a free concert in the rain one night, and went out to a lounge and concert the next.

in prague we did the walking tour. we also randomly happened upon a free outdoor concert of cool music. and we ate really well. it was kates bday eve, and we were at a famouse place at midnight, where i sang embarassingly loud and gave her a few small things.

then on the bday itself we took a 5 hour train ride to vienna, checked into our hostel and met with some of my jesus freaks friends for dinner and drinks and cake. and went out to a dance place, because thats what kate likes.

today we saw vienna... it really has something increadible around every corner. hard to take it all in. and tonight we went to a skatellites concert.

tommorro we leave for budapest, then croatia..

san sebastian and plans

the smallisch city turned out to be really cool, very pretty and interesting. there were some waves, but we left off surfing this time. we stayed at ira's pension, not to e confused wit the ira who wa our roommate in madrid. she was like a family friend or grandmother, and spoke french to kate and spanish to me. when we said goodbye, she clasped our hands and ket telling us our sweet and great we are, with big hearts, hugging us and all. she was adorable.
this morning we left after a short night at 6:20 for paris, where we are now. i found a hotel last night after searching the net for an hour, right by sacre coeur. its got its own unique atmoshere..
from here we plan to go to brussels and then amsterdam, so any tips are very welcome! hopefully i will see a few friends along the way.

madrid

we finally did make it to madrid. we stayed at a place called the mad hostel, and got a room for 4 and its own bathroom instead of a 6 bed room, because we were a day late. they didnt charge us more, though! and the guy was really serious about not wanting to make us pay for the night we had to cancell last minute. our roommates turned out to be two american guys, kyle and ira from california. they were a pretty cool duo. we spent the day walking around and saw alot of the important sites on accident. there arent that many in madrid. the one museum i was looking the most forward to, the modern art, was closed! bah. so we had bad lunch instead. aparently, a hamburger in spain is a ham burger. when we stopped back at the room to make plans for own next stop, we met up with the guys again, who also needed to go make reservations. the four of us spent an eternity at the station, and then went to dinner. since they had never had indian food, the cate conspiracy had to corrupt them. they loved it. afterwards we went to a place called juglar for drinks and hung out a long time.
this morning we left for san sebastian, on the northern coast of the basque region.

valencia

we wanted to go to madrid, after our bus-plane-bus action to the train station in barcelona yesturday, but bc of a holiday, there were no seats. so we ended up on a train to valencia, spains third largest city.

once here we found a hostel by asking people.. that worked to get us into our nicest and cheapest hostel yet!

this morning on the deck i met some german ladies, and it turned out, one is the mother of my friend manuel! see entry from jan 8 about the carpenters!!
